Blyth Festival hosts Something to Crow About
Biennial Gala Dinner and Auction October 24, 2009

In the final celebration of its 35th anniversary season Blyth Festival is hosting a gala dinner and auction, Something to Crow About:  35 years of great Canadian theatre, on Saturday, October 24, 2009, at the Blyth Community Centre.

Professional artists, local businesses and attractions located throughout Ontario have all been extremely generous in providing items for their guests.  A volunteer committee has co-ordinated items in packages themed on titles of over 90 of the Festival’s 165 plays - titles like Yesteryear (1998), Safe Haven (1993), Innocence Lost (2008) and Mostly in Clover (1975) – all for sale to the highest bidders through Silent and Live Auctions.  Colleen Curran’s Calk Walk premièred at the Festival in 1984 and was remounted in 1986, so a celebrity cake walk featuring local celebrities and bakers is bound to be a highlight of the evening.

The evening’s Master of Ceremonies is well-known local director Duncan McGregor.  A quartet from Blyth Festival Orchestra will set the ambiance as the guests arrive and preview items available for their bid.  Forager Foods of Bayfield is preparing the Save a Chicken Dinner and the Seaforth Girls Marching Band will be serving a crowd of over 150.  Richard Lobb of Clinton is the auctioneer.

Tantalize your tastebuds; cavort with your friends. Bid, battle and bait to win exciting escapes, unique collectables, and tempting treasures!        Limited tickets ($40) are still available by calling the box office at 519.523.9300 or 1.877.862.5984 toll free.  The catalogue showing a complete list of items and donors is available online at www.blythfestival.com

The Blyth Festival’s 2009 Special Events sponsors are Huron Insurance Managers Group.  The Season Sponsors are Sparling’s Propane Company Limited and CTV.
