Blyth Festival Art Gallery
The Blyth Festival Art Gallery co-ordinates three professional juried exhibitions, a community art show and a secondary school student exhibition each year in the Bainton Gallery which is located in the Blyth Memorial Community Hall beside the Blyth Festival box office. The Gallery is open to the public during Festival business hours and has been operating under the guidance of an extraordinary group of volunteers since 1976.
ART GALLERY ANNNOUNCES 2012 EXHIBITION LINE-UP
The Blyth Festival Art Gallery has announced its 2012 exhibition schedule, beginning with the annual Student Show. Running from May 3rd to May 18th, it will feature works by high school art students from the Avon Maitland District and Huron Perth Catholic School Boards.
The annual Community Show is a non-juried exhibition, open to all Huron area residents. This is an excellent opportunity for both established and aspiring artists in any media to show their talent in a public art gallery and will be on display from May 19th to June 16th.
The first of three feature exhibitions will introduce the medium of encaustic painting to the Gallery. Anna Koot, Wendy Orr and Wendy O’Brien literally paint with hot wax, the resulting paintings being highly textured, and brilliantly coloured due to the translucent nature of the wax. The show will have a rural theme and can be viewed from June 22nd to July 18th.
This year is London’s H. B. Beal Secondary School’s 100th Anniversary. Their art department has produced many successful fine artists, artisans, filmmakers and animators, including Greg Curnoe, Jack Chambers, Murray Favro, and film’s Paul Haggis. Beal Art will highlight the works of some of the teachers who helped mould these individuals and will be shown from July 20th to August 15th.
Our final exhibition, from August 17th to the end of the Festival season, will focus on the work of a young Seaforth artist, Monica Eckert. Inspired by the stripped-down simplicity of animation stills, her paintings avoid detail and have a soft dream-like quality while depicting scenes of everyday rural life.
All shows will be mounted in the Bainton Gallery, located in the Blyth Memorial Hall and have free admission. The Blyth Festival Art Gallery committee is made up of a group of enthusiastic volunteers who are always on the lookout for new art talent.
